It all started back in the early 1970s when Ted and Glen Jackson attended Troup Technical School (now known as West Georgia Technical College) in LaGrange, Georgia to learn the basics of electricity and refrigeration.

After attending school and receiving on-the-job training at a local appliance shop, Ted decided to go out on his own with the full support of his wife, Nan, and started Jackson Appliance and Antenna Service in their LaGrange home’s single-car garage. Shortly after, Glen joined the business. The two set out to repair appliances and electronics in the community with only two trucks, a collection of tools, and some parts– plus no debt!

Jackson Appliance and Antenna Service quickly outgrew Ted’s garage, so the company moved to a neighbor’s spare garage. Not even a year later, the company outgrew that space and set up shop in the back of Elmer Adamson’s Barber Shop. During this time of transition, Ted and Glen added refrigeration repair to their list of services offered and the company became Jackson Refrigeration. As the business continued to grow and prosper, upgrades like a new truck, two-way radios, and a lift gate for appliance delivery were added.

The momentum of the business’ growth continued, so in 1975 the company purchased two houses on Whitesville Road– one to use as a shop and one to rent out. The next year, Jackson Refrigeration hired Bobby Hicks to install residential heating and air conditioning systems, as well as a full-time secretary. As more heating and air conditioning work rolled in, the company changed its name one last time to Jackson Heating and Air Conditioning, also known today as Jackson Services.

The company hired Sharon Phillips as its full-time secretary in 1979, and she quickly learned to tackle many of the tasks Nan Jackson and Gerry Wilkes had been overseeing. In 1980, Jackson Services became a GE Dealer, adding to a list of other valuable partnerships such as Westinghouse. The company also purchased land and built the current Jackson Services headquarters at 1411 Whitesville Road. What started out as a little block building is now an impressive 5,000 square-foot facility, plus a sizable warehouse.

Jackson Services incorporated in 1982 and has only continued to grow from there. Since then, the company has added two additional locations– one in Newnan, Georgia and one in Opelika, Alabama. While the Newnan location was sold in 1995, the LaGrange and Opelika locations are still going strong with no signs of slowing down.

In 2006, sons Dale and Ben Jackson became part owners of the company and began working diligently to carry on the business. Today, Jackson Services is one of the largest providers of heating services and cooling services, plus plumbing services, in West Georgia and East Alabama. As it has from the very beginning, Jackson Services seeks to provide new and existing customers with courteous, thorough, and prompt service.
